7 | 7 | relating to a study by the Department of Agriculture of the transfer | |
8 | 8 | of water from the Mississippi River. | |
9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. (a) In this section, "department" means the | |
11 | 11 | Department of Agriculture. | |
12 | 12 | (b) The department shall conduct a study of the feasibility | |
13 | 13 | of and the costs and benefits associated with the transfer of water | |
14 | 14 | from the Mississippi River to this state by an underground aqueduct | |
15 | 15 | or covered canal. | |
16 | 16 | (c) In conducting the study, the department shall consult | |
17 | 17 | with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the Texas Water | |
18 | 18 | Development Board, the United States Army Corps of Engineers, and | |
19 | 19 | the appropriate governmental agencies of any state that would be | |
20 | 20 | affected by the transfer. | |
21 | 21 | (d) The department may accept grants or private donations | |
22 | 22 | for the purposes of conducting the study under this section. | |
23 | 23 | (e) Not later than January 1, 2019, the department shall | |
24 | 24 | submit to the legislature a report containing the findings of the | |
25 | 25 | study conducted under this section. | |
26 | 26 | SECTION 2. This Act expires January 2, 2019. | |
27 | 27 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
