| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 233.003(c), Election Code, is amended to | |

| 12 | 12 | (c) The costs of an election contest may not be assessed | |
| 13 | 13 | against a contestee specified by this section. The costs of an | |
| 14 | 14 | election may be assessed [or] against the governmental or political | |
| 15 | 15 | entity the contestee represents. | |
| 16 | 16 | SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to | |
| 17 | 17 | an election ordered on or after September 1, 2017. | |
| 18 | 18 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
