| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 61, Education Code, is | |
| 11 | 11 | amended by adding Section 61.09010 to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Sec. 61.09010. AUDIT OF FACULTY COMPOSITION. (a) The board | |
| 13 | 13 | shall conduct an annual audit of information and data related to the | |
| 14 | 14 | age, gender, and race or ethnic composition of the faculty of | |
| 15 | 15 | institutions of higher education. | |
| 16 | 16 | (b) The board may require an institution of higher education | |
| 17 | 17 | to report to the board the data and information the board considers | |
| 18 | 18 | necessary to conduct a thorough audit under Subsection (a), | |
| 19 | 19 | including data related to the age, gender, and race or ethnicity of | |
| 20 | 20 | each faculty member of the institution. | |
| 21 | 21 | (c) The board shall analyze the data and other information | |
| 22 | 22 | audited under Subsection (a) to evaluate and determine the | |
| 23 | 23 | appropriate hiring needs for future faculty at institutions of | |
| 24 | 24 | higher education. | |
| 25 | 25 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
