The bill would amend Chapter 1472, Acts of the 77th Legislature, Regular Session 2001 relating to the Sabine-Neches Navigation District of Jefferson County. The bill would allow the district to acquire, purchase, lease, maintain, repair, and operate facilities and equipment related to fighting fires. The district would be allowed to impose a maintenance tax not to exceed 10 cents for each $100 valuation of taxable property in the district. The bill would take effect immediately if it receives a two-thirds vote in each house; otherwise, the bill would take effect September 1, 2017.
