66 AN ACT
77 relating to permits for certain vehicles being operated in
88 connection with a motor sports racing event.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 623, Transportation Code,
1111 is amended by adding Section 623.0172 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 623.0172. MOTOR SPORTS RACING EVENT PERMIT. (a) In
1313 this section, "motor sports racing event" means an automobile
1414 racing event and all activities leading up to that event, including
1515 administration, testing, practice, promotion, and merchandising,
1616 that is sanctioned by the Automobile Competition Committee for the
1717 United States (ACCUS).
1818 (b) The department shall issue a permit that allows a person
1919 to operate over a state highway or road a combination of vehicles
2020 that exceeds the length limit provided by law if the combination of
2121 vehicles:
2222 (1) does not exceed 85 feet in length; and
2323 (2) is being operated:
2424 (A) for personal, noncommercial use; and
2525 (B) primarily or exclusively in connection with a
2626 motor sports racing event.
2727 (c) A permit issued under this section:
2828 (1) is valid for 15 days; and
2929 (2) must be carried in the vehicle for which it is
3030 issued.
3131 (d) A person is not eligible for a permit under this section
3232 if, during the preceding 12 months, the person has been issued a
3333 permit under this section five or more times.
3434 (e) The department may adopt rules necessary to implement
3535 this section, including rules governing the application for a
3636 permit under this section.
3737 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
