115 relating to the categories used to record the race or ethnicity of
126 persons stopped for or convicted of traffic offenses.
137 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
148 SECTION 1. Article 2.132(a)(3), Code of Criminal Procedure,
159 is amended to read as follows:
1610 (3) "Race or ethnicity" means the following
1711 categories:
1812 (A) Alaska native or American Indian;
1913 (B) [of a particular descent, including
2014 Caucasian, African, Hispanic,] Asian or Pacific Islander;
2115 (C) black;
2216 (D) white; and
2317 (E) Hispanic or Latino [, Native American, or
2418 Middle Eastern descent].
2519 SECTION 2. Section 543.202(a), Transportation Code, is
2620 amended to read as follows:
2721 (a) In this section, "race or ethnicity" means the following
2822 categories:
2923 (1) Alaska native or American Indian;
3024 (2) [of a particular descent, including Caucasian,
3125 African, Hispanic,] Asian or Pacific Islander;
3226 (3) black;
3327 (4) white; and
3428 (5) Hispanic or Latino [, or Native American descent].
3529 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
