9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 141.065, Election Code, is amended by | |
11 | 11 | adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | (c) A single notarized affidavit by any person who obtained | |
13 | 13 | signatures is valid for all signatures gathered by the person if the | |
14 | 14 | date of notarization is on or after the date of the last signature | |
15 | 15 | obtained by the person. | |
16 | 16 | SECTION 2. Subchapter C, Chapter 141, Election Code, is | |
17 | 17 | amended by adding Section 141.071 to read as follows: | |
18 | 18 | Sec. 141.071. CORRECTION OF PETITION. A petition may be | |
19 | 19 | corrected and additional signatures presented to the appropriate | |
20 | 20 | authority after it has been initially filed but not after the | |
21 | 21 | deadline for filing the petition. | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 3. The changes in law made by this Act apply to a | |
23 | 23 | petition circulated on or after the effective date of this Act. A | |
24 | 24 | petition circulated before the effective date of this Act is | |
25 | 25 | governed by the law in effect on the date the petition is | |
26 | 26 | circulated, and the former law is continued in effect for that | |
27 | 27 | purpose. | |
28 | 28 | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
