55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to funding sources for the repayment of certain
88 speech-language pathologist and audiologist education loans.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 61.9818, Education Code, is amended to
1111 read as follows:
1212 Sec. 61.9818. PROGRAM FUNDING. The program may be funded
1313 [solely] from:
1414 (1) gifts, grants, and donations solicited and
1515 accepted by the board for the purposes of this subchapter; and
1616 (2) fees collected to cover the costs of administering
1717 programs or activities for speech-language pathologists and
1818 audiologists under Chapter 51, Occupations Code, in excess of the
1919 money required to pay the expenses for the administration of those
2020 programs or activities.
2121 SECTION 2. Section 51.202, Occupations Code, is amended by
2222 adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
2323 (d) Any money from fees collected by the department under
2424 this chapter to cover the costs of administering programs or
2525 activities for speech-language pathologists and audiologists that
2626 remains after payment of the expenses for the administration of
2727 those programs or activities may be used to fund the loan repayment
2828 program established under Subchapter II, Chapter 61, Education
2929 Code.
3030 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3131 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3232 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3333 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3434 Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
