| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 61, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | amended by adding Section 61.0519 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Sec. 61.0519. STUDY ON ECONOMIC IMPACT OF GENERAL ACADEMIC |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | TEACHING INSTITUTIONS. (a) The board shall conduct a study to |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | examine the economic impact of general academic teaching |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | institutions on this state. In conducting the study, the board may |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | collaborate with general academic teaching institutions and other |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | state agencies. |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (b) Not later than December 1, 2018, the board shall submit |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | to the governor, the lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | of representatives, and the members of each legislative standing |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | committee with primary jurisdiction over higher education a written |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | report that contains the results of the study under Subsection (a). |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (c) This section expires January 1, 2019. |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
