1210 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1311 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 264, Family Code, is
1412 amended by adding Section 264.1252 to read as follows:
1513 Sec. 264.1252. REIMBURSEMENT FOR EXPENSES RELATING TO
16- OBTAINING OR RENEWING A DRIVER'S LICENSE AND OBTAINING INSURANCE.
17- (a) The department shall reimburse a foster parent for any monetary
18- expenses relating to obtaining:
19- (1) a driver's license for a foster child, including
20- the cost for completing a driver education course required by
21- Section 521.1601, Transportation Code, and the driver's license
22- fee; and
23- (2) liability insurance for the foster child that
24- meets the minimum requirements of Subchapter D, Chapter 601,
25- Transportation Code.
14+ OBTAINING A DRIVER'S LICENSE. (a) The department shall reimburse a
15+ foster parent for any monetary expenses relating to obtaining a
16+ driver's license for a foster child, including the cost for
17+ completing a driver education course required by Section 521.1601,
18+ Transportation Code, the driver's license fee, and the cost of
19+ liability insurance that meets the minimum requirements of
20+ Subchapter D, Chapter 601, Transportation Code.
2621 (b) The department shall reimburse a former foster child
27- younger than 21 years of age for any monetary expenses relating to:
28- (1) obtaining or renewing a driver's license,
29- including the cost for completing a driver education course
30- required by Section 521.1601, Transportation Code, and the driver's
31- license fee; and
32- (2) obtaining liability insurance that meets the
33- minimum requirements of Subchapter D, Chapter 601, Transportation
34- Code.
35- (c) Subsection (b) applies only to a former foster child who
36- was in the conservatorship of the department on the day preceding
37- the former foster child's 18th birthday.
38- (d) A person entitled to reimbursement for expenses under
22+ younger than 21 years of age for the expenses paid by the former
23+ foster child to renew a driver's license and to obtain liability
24+ insurance that meets the minimum requirements of Subchapter D,
25+ Chapter 601, Transportation Code.
26+ (c) A person entitled to reimbursement for expenses under
3927 this section must provide the department with receipts for the
4028 expenses to receive reimbursement.
41- SECTION 2. Section 264.1252, Family Code, as added by this
42- Act, applies only to an expense relating to obtaining a driver's
43- license or insurance for a foster child or obtaining or renewing a
44- driver's license or obtaining insurance for a former foster child
45- incurred on or after the effective date of this Act.
46- SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
