410 AN ACT
511 relating to parental notification regarding public school teacher
612 qualifications.
713 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
814 SECTION 1. Section 21.057(e), Education Code, is amended to
915 read as follows:
1016 (e) This section does not apply if a school is required in
1117 accordance with Section 1006 [1111(h)(6)(B)(ii)], Every Student
1218 Succeeds Act (20 U.S.C. Section 6312(e)(1)(B)(ii)) [No Child Left
1319 Behind Act of 2001 (20 U.S.C. Section 6311), and its subsequent
1420 amendments], to provide notice to a parent or guardian regarding a
1521 teacher who does not meet certification requirements at the grade
1622 level and subject area in which the teacher is assigned [is not
1723 highly qualified], provided the school provides notice as required
1824 by that Act.
1925 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2026 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2127 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2228 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2329 Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
