911 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1012 SECTION 1. Subchapter E, Chapter 508, Government Code, is
1113 amended by adding Section 508.158 to read as follows:
1214 Sec. 508.158. ALTERNATIVE HOUSING PROGRAM. The department
1315 shall require that an applicant to participate as a provider in a
1416 program designed to provide alternative housing for five or more
1517 unrelated releasees must provide notice by mail of the applicant's
1618 request to participate in the program to each public school,
1719 including an open-enrollment charter school, private school, or
1820 day-care facility located within 1,000 feet of the proposed
1921 alternative housing location. The department shall require the
2022 applicant to submit with the application, in the manner specified
2123 by the department, a list of each school or facility provided notice
2224 under this section and an affidavit of the applicant stating that
2325 the applicant has complied with this section.
2426 SECTION 2. (a) Not later than December 1, 2017, the Texas
2527 Department of Criminal Justice shall update application forms as
2628 necessary to implement Section 508.158, Government Code, as added
2729 by this Act.
2830 (b) Section 508.158, Government Code, as added by this Act,
2931 applies only to an application to participate in a program
3032 described by that section that is submitted on or after January 1,
3133 2018.
3234 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
