|---|

| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 51, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | amended by adding Section 51.9196 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Sec. 51.9196. REQUIRED EMPLOYMENT DATA FOR NEW STUDENTS |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | REGARDING MAJOR FIELD OF STUDY. (a) In this section, "general |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | academic teaching institution" and "public state college" have the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | meanings assigned by Section 61.003. |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (b) As soon as practicable following the student's |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | enrollment, each general academic teaching institution other than a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | public state college shall provide to each first-time entering |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | undergraduate student, including each undergraduate student who |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | transfers to the institution, information, in electronic or paper |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | format, relating to the student's major field of study from the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Texas Consumer Resource for Education and Workforce Statistics |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | ("Texas CREWS") report on gainful employment applicable to the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | institution for the most recent year for which that information is |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | available. |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | (c) If a student to whom an institution is required to |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | provide information under this section has not chosen a major field |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | of study, the institution shall provide to the student an Internet |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | website link to the Texas CREWS report on gainful employment |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | applicable to the institution for the most recent year for which |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | that information is available. |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | SECTION 2. Section 51.9196, Education Code, as added by |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | this Act, applies beginning with the 2017 fall semester. |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
