| 5 | 11 | | relating to the terms of the board of directors of the Palo Pinto |

| 6 | 12 | | County Hospital District. |
|---|
| 7 | 13 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 14 | | SECTION 1. Section 1084.051(b), Special District Local Laws |
|---|
| 9 | 15 | | Code, is amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 16 | | (b) Unless four-year terms are established under Section |
|---|
| 11 | 17 | | 285.081, Health and Safety Code, the directors elected to the board |
|---|
| 12 | 18 | | serve staggered three-year [two-year] terms [as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 19 | | [(1) directors for places 1, 2, and 3 are elected on |
|---|
| 14 | 20 | | the uniform election date in May of each odd-numbered year; and |
|---|
| 15 | 21 | | [(2) directors for places 4, 5, and 6 are elected on |
|---|
| 16 | 22 | | the uniform election date in May of each even-numbered year]. |

| 17 | 23 | | SECTION 2. A director of the Palo Pinto County Hospital |
|---|
| 18 | 24 | | District who is serving on the day before the effective date of this |
|---|
| 19 | 25 | | Act shall serve until the director's term expires as described by |
|---|
| 20 | 26 | | this section. A director serving in Place 1 or Place 2 shall serve |
|---|
| 21 | 27 | | until the director's successor has qualified following the election |
|---|
| 22 | 28 | | held in 2017. A director serving in Place 3 or Place 4 shall serve |
|---|
| 23 | 29 | | until the director's successor has qualified following the election |
|---|
| 24 | 30 | | held in 2018. A director serving in Place 5 or Place 6 shall serve |
|---|
| 25 | 31 | | until the director's successor has qualified following the election |
|---|
| 26 | 32 | | held in 2019. |

| 27 | 33 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 28 | 34 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 29 | 35 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 30 | 36 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 31 | 37 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
