117 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
12- SECTION 1. Section 508.001, Government Code, is amended by
13- amending Subdivision (1) and adding Subdivision (1-a) to read as
14- follows:
8+ SECTION 1. Section 508.001, Government Code is amended to
9+ read as follows:
10+ Sec. 508.001. DEFINITIONS. In this chapter:
1511 (1) "Administrative Violation" means a technical
16- violation of a condition of release on parole or to mandatory
17- supervision that does not involve alleged criminal conduct.
18- (1-a) "Board" means the Board of Pardons and Paroles.
19- SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.

16+ (2) (3) "Community supervision and corrections
17+ department" means a department established under Chapter 76.

20+ (4) (5) "Division" means the pardons and paroles
21+ division.
22+ (5) (6) "Mandatory supervision" means the release of
23+ an eligible inmate sentenced to the institutional division so that
24+ the inmate may serve the remainder of the inmate's sentence not on
25+ parole but under the supervision of the pardons and paroles
26+ division.
27+ (6) (7) "Parole" means the discretionary and
28+ conditional release of an eligible inmate sentenced to the
29+ institutional division so that the inmate may serve the remainder
30+ of the inmate's sentence under the supervision of the pardons and
31+ paroles division.
32+ (7) (8) "Parole officer" means a person appointed by
33+ the director and assigned the duties of assessment of risks and
34+ needs, investigation, case management, and supervision of
35+ releasees to ensure that releasees are complying with the
36+ conditions of parole or mandatory supervision.
37+ (8) (9) "Parole commissioner" means a person employed
38+ by the board to perform the duties described by Section 508.0441.
39+ (9) (10) "Releasee" means a person released on parole
40+ or to mandatory supervision.
41+ (10) (11) "Presiding officer" means the presiding
42+ officer of the Board of Pardons and Paroles.
43+ SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
44+ a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
45+ provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas constitution. If this
46+ Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
47+ Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
