44 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
55 AN ACT
66 relating to a wage increase for certain public school employees.
77 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1. Sections 12.133(b-1) and (d-1), Education Code,
99 are amended to read as follows:
1010 (b-1) Using state funds received by the charter holder for
1111 that purpose under Subsection (d-1), a charter holder that
1212 participated in the program under Chapter 1579, Insurance Code, for
1313 the 2005-2006 school year shall provide employees of the charter
1414 holder, other than administrators, compensation in the form of
1515 annual salaries, incentives, or other compensation determined
1616 appropriate by the charter holder that results in average
1717 compensation increases as follows:
1818 (1) for full-time employees other than employees who
1919 would be entitled to a minimum salary under Section 21.402 if
2020 employed by a school district, an average increase at least equal to
2121 $1,000 [$500]; and
2222 (2) for part-time employees, an average increase at
2323 least equal to $500 [$250].
2424 (d-1) In addition to any amounts to which a charter holder
2525 is entitled under this chapter, a charter holder that participated
2626 in the program under Chapter 1579, Insurance Code, for the
2727 2005-2006 school year is entitled to state aid in an amount, as
2828 determined by the commissioner, equal to the sum of:
2929 (1) the product of $1,000 [$500] multiplied by the
3030 number of full-time employees other than employees who would be
3131 entitled to a minimum salary under Section 21.402 if employed by a
3232 school district; and
3333 (2) the product of $500 [$250] multiplied by the
3434 number of part-time employees.
3535 SECTION 2. Sections 22.107(a) and (b), Education Code, are
3636 amended to read as follows:
3737 (a) A school district shall pay each full-time district
3838 employee, other than an administrator or an employee subject to the
3939 minimum salary schedule under Section 21.402, an amount at least
4040 equal to $1,000 [$500].
4141 (b) A school district shall pay each part-time district
4242 employee, other than an administrator, an amount at least equal to
4343 $500 [$250].

4545 on 42.2513(a), Education Code, is amended
4646 to read as follows:
4747 (a) A school district, including a school district that is
4848 otherwise ineligible for state aid under this chapter, is entitled
4949 to state aid in an amount equal to the sum of:
5050 (1) the product of $1,000 [$500] multiplied by the
5151 number of full-time district employees, other than administrators
5252 or employees subject to the minimum salary schedule under Section
5353 21.402; and
5454 (2) the product of $500 [$250] multiplied by the
5555 number of part-time district employees, other than administrators.
5656 SECTION 4. This Act applies beginning with the 2017-2018
5757 school year.
5858 SECTION 5. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
