8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Section 62.160, Water Code, is amended to read as | |
10 | 10 | follows: | |
11 | 11 | Sec. 62.160. MAINTENANCE TAX. (a) The commissioners courts | |
12 | 12 | of the respective counties inside each district may levy and have | |
13 | 13 | assessed and collected for the maintenance, operation, and upkeep | |
14 | 14 | of the district and the improvements constructed by the district an | |
15 | 15 | annual tax not to exceed 10 cents on the $100 valuation on all | |
16 | 16 | property inside the district. | |
17 | 17 | (b) In the event of the tax being suspended by a district | |
18 | 18 | located in a county with a population of not less than 400,000 and | |
19 | 19 | not more than 4 million that borders the Gulf of Mexico, or a county | |
20 | 20 | that borders the Gulf of Mexico and is adjacent to such a county, | |
21 | 21 | the tax may be reinstated upon request by the district to the county | |
22 | 22 | tax assessor-collector. | |
23 | 23 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
