| 8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Section 823.002, Government Code, is amended by | |
| 10 | 10 | adding Subsection (c) as follows: | |
| 11 | 11 | (c) Except as otherwise provided by Subsection (a), | |
| 12 | 12 | the board of trustees shall ensure that service is credited equally | |
| 13 | 13 | for higher education faculty teaching courses of equivalent | |
| 14 | 14 | academic credit, regardless of whether the course is taught over an | |
| 15 | 15 | entire semester or compressed into a shorter time period. | |
| 16 | 16 | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2017-2018 | |
| 17 | 17 | school year. | |
| 18 | 18 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 19 | 19 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 20 | 20 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 21 | 21 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 22 | 22 | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
