8 | 8 | SECTION 1. Section 551.301, Transportation Code, is amended | |
9 | 9 | to read as follows: | |
10 | 10 | In this subchapter, "neighborhood electric vehicle" means a vehicle | |
11 | 11 | that can attain a maximum speed of 35 miles per hour on a paved level | |
12 | 12 | surface, and is: | |
13 | 13 | (a) [otherwise complies] manufactured and certified to | |
14 | 14 | comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 500 (49 C.F.R. | |
15 | 15 | Section 571.500), or[.] | |
16 | 16 | (b) manufactured and certified to comply with federal | |
17 | 17 | safety requirements for a motorcycle. | |
18 | 18 | SECTION 2. Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
