44 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
55 AN ACT
66 relating to the expansion of the College Credit for Heroes program
77 to lower-division public institutions of higher education offering
88 degrees in certain fields.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 302.0031, Labor Code, is amended by
1111 amending Subsections (a) and (f) and adding Subsection (b-1) to
1212 read as follows:
1313 (a) In this section:
1414 (1) "Institution[, "institution] of higher
1515 education," "public junior college," "public state college," and
1616 "public technical institute" have [has] the meanings [meaning]
1717 assigned by Section 61.003, Education Code.
1818 (2) "Lower-division institution of higher education"
1919 means a public junior college, public state college, or public
2020 technical institute.
2121 (b-1) The commission shall administer the College Credit
2222 for Heroes program at each lower-division institution of higher
2323 education that offers a degree program in the field of applied
2424 science or in a closely related field, as determined by the
2525 commission in consultation with the Texas Higher Education
2626 Coordinating Board for purposes of this subsection. The commission
2727 by rule shall establish a procedure through which a lower-division
2828 institution of higher education described by this subsection may
2929 opt out of participating in the program.
3030 (f) The commission shall [may] adopt rules as necessary for
3131 the administration of this section.
3232 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
