44 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
55 AN ACT
66 relating to increasing the punishment for certain offenses that
77 occur on the grounds of a school district and involve expressions of
88 bias or prejudice against certain groups.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Article 42.014(b), Code of Criminal Procedure,
1111 is amended to read as follows:
1212 (b) Except as otherwise provided by this subsection, the
1313 [The] sentencing judge may, as a condition of punishment, require
1414 attendance in an educational program to further tolerance and
1515 acceptance of others. If an offense under Section 28.03 or 28.08,
1616 Penal Code, occurred on the grounds of a school district, the
1717 sentencing judge shall, as a condition of punishment, require
1818 attendance in an educational program to further tolerance and
1919 acceptance of others.
2020 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
