| 8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Section 351.042, Local Government Code, is | |
| 10 | 10 | amended to read as follows: | |
| 11 | 11 | Sec. 351.042. JAIL ADMINISTRATOR IN CERTAIN COUNTIES [BEXAR | |
| 12 | 12 | COUNTY]. The commissioners court [Commissioners Court] of a county | |
| 13 | 13 | with a population of not less than 1.7 million [Bexar County] may | |
| 14 | 14 | appoint a jail administrator who shall exercise all power, | |
| 15 | 15 | supervision, and control over the jail, including the duties | |
| 16 | 16 | imposed by law on the sheriff with respect to the jail. | |
| 17 | 17 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 18 | 18 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 19 | 19 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 20 | 20 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 21 | 21 | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
