44 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
55 AN ACT
66 relating to the salary of the superintendent of the Texas School for
77 the Deaf.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 30.053(d), of the Education Code is
1010 amended to read as follows:
1111 Sec. 30.053. SUPERINTENDENT OF THE TEXAS SCHOOL FOR THE
1212 DEAF.
1313 (a) The superintendent of the Texas School for the Deaf is
1414 appointed by the governing board of the school.
1515 (b) The superintendent must:
1616 (1) hold an advanced degree in the field of education;
1717 (2) have teaching and administrative experience in
1818 programs serving students who are deaf; and
1919 (3) satisfy any other requirements the board
2020 establishes.
2121 (c) The superintendent may reside at the school.
2222 (d) The board shall annually establish the superintendent's
2323 salary. The annual salary may not exceed 120 percent of the annual
2424 salary of the highest paid instructional administrator at the
2525 school.
2626 (e) The superintendent is the chief administrative officer
2727 of the school. The superintendent shall take any necessary and
2828 appropriate action to carry out the functions and purposes of the
2929 school according to any general policy the board prescribes.
3030 (f) The superintendent may provide directly to a parent or
3131 guardian of a student written information regarding:
3232 (1) the availability of a program offered by a state
3333 institution for which the student may be eligible;
3434 (2) any eligibility and admission requirements
3535 imposed by the state institution; and
3636 (3) the rights of a student regarding admission to the
3737 state institution and appeal of an admission decision.
3838 SECTION 2. This act takes effect September 1, 2017.
