| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. The heading to Section 372.053, Transportation |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Code, is amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Sec. 372.053. MILITARY [VETERAN] DISCOUNT PROGRAMS |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | [PROGRAM]. |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | SECTION 2. Section 372.053, Transportation Code, is amended |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | by adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (c) The department, in cooperation with the United States |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | armed forces, shall create a program to facilitate, through the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | issuance and use of electronic toll collection transponders, any |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | free or discounted toll project use available to active duty |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | members of: |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (1) the National Guard of this state or another state; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | or |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (2) a reserve component of the United States armed |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | forces. |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
