| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 11.169, Education Code, is amended to | |
| 11 | 11 | read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Sec. 11.169. ELECTIONEERING PROHIBITED. (a) Except as | |
| 13 | 13 | provided by Subsection (b) [Notwithstanding any other law], a | |
| 14 | 14 | member of the board of trustees or an employee of an independent | |
| 15 | 15 | school district may not use state or local funds or other resources | |
| 16 | 16 | of the district to electioneer for or against any candidate, | |
| 17 | 17 | measure, or political party. | |
| 18 | 18 | (b) A member of the board of trustees or an employee of an | |
| 19 | 19 | independent school district may use public resources, including a | |
| 20 | 20 | public e-mail address or telephone number, to provide information | |
| 21 | 21 | about: | |
| 22 | 22 | (1) polling locations; and | |
| 23 | 23 | (2) exact ballot proposition language. | |
| 24 | 24 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
