99 AN ACT
1010 relating to an exemption from application of the Private Security
1111 Act for volunteer security services provided at a place of
1212 religious worship.
1313 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1414 SECTION 1. Subchapter N, Chapter 1702, Occupations Code, is
1515 amended by adding Section 1702.333 to read as follows:
1616 Sec. 1702.333. PLACE OF RELIGIOUS WORSHIP; CERTAIN
1717 VOLUNTEERS. (a) In this section, "volunteer security services"
1818 means services or activities that are:
1919 (1) regulated under this chapter; and
2020 (2) provided without compensation or remuneration.
2121 (b) This chapter does not apply to a person who is providing
2222 volunteer security services on the premises of a church, synagogue,
2323 or other established place of religious worship.
2424 (c) While providing volunteer security services under
2525 Subsection (b), a person may not wear a uniform or badge that:
2626 (1) contains the word "security"; or
2727 (2) gives the person the appearance of being a peace
2828 officer, personal protection officer, or security officer.
2929 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
