85 AN ACT
96 relating to measures to ensure certain adopted students are
107 informed regarding their eligibility for tuition and fee exemptions
118 at certain institutions of higher education.
129 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1310 SECTION 1. Section 51.762, Education Code, is amended by
1411 adding Subsection (j) to read as follows:
1512 (j) The board shall ensure that each application form
1613 adopted under this section solicits from an applicant the
1714 information required for an institution of higher education to
1815 determine whether the applicant is eligible for an exemption from
1916 tuition and fees under Section 54.367 for adopted students formerly
2017 in foster or other residential care.
2118 SECTION 2. Section 54.367, Education Code, is amended by
2219 adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
2320 (c) The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board by rule
2421 shall require each institution of higher education to send
2522 information about the tuition and fee exemption under this section
2623 to each applicant who is determined to be eligible for the exemption
2724 by information collected on the applicant's application for
2825 admission.
2926 SECTION 3. The changes in law made by this Act to Sections
3027 51.762 and 54.367, Education Code, apply beginning with
3128 applications for admission to institutions of higher education for
32- the 2018-2019 academic year.

3330 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
