| 6 | 12 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 7 | 13 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter E, Chapter 130, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 8 | 14 | | amended by adding Section 130.0829 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 9 | 15 | | Sec. 130.0829. GOVERNING BOARD OF PARIS JUNIOR COLLEGE |
|---|
| 10 | 16 | | DISTRICT. (a) Notwithstanding any other provision of this |
|---|
| 11 | 17 | | subchapter, the governing board of the Paris Junior College |
|---|
| 12 | 18 | | District may provide by resolution or order of the board for the |
|---|
| 13 | 19 | | election of nine board members as follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 20 | | (1) eight members elected from respective |
|---|
| 15 | 21 | | commissioner precincts and evenly allocated among those precincts; |
|---|
| 16 | 22 | | and |
|---|
| 17 | 23 | | (2) one member elected at large. |
|---|
| 18 | 24 | | (b) A resolution or order of the governing board under |
|---|
| 19 | 25 | | Subsection (a) must establish transition terms of office to conform |
|---|
| 20 | 26 | | to elections held in even-numbered years and staggered six-year |
|---|
| 21 | 27 | | terms. |
|---|
| 22 | 28 | | (c) Notwithstanding Section 41.0052, Election Code, the |
|---|
| 23 | 29 | | governing board of the Paris Junior College District by resolution |
|---|
| 24 | 30 | | or order of the board may change the date on which the district |
|---|
| 25 | 31 | | holds its general election for board members to the November |
|---|
| 26 | 32 | | uniform election date. The governing board shall adjust the terms |
|---|
| 27 | 33 | | of office to conform to a change made to the election date under |
|---|
| 28 | 34 | | this subsection. |
|---|
| 29 | 35 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
