410 AN ACT
511 relating to the Paris Junior College District.
612 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
713 SECTION 1. Subchapter E, Chapter 130, Education Code, is
814 amended by adding Section 130.0829 to read as follows:
915 Sec. 130.0829. GOVERNING BOARD OF PARIS JUNIOR COLLEGE
1016 DISTRICT. (a) Notwithstanding any other provision of this
1117 subchapter, the governing board of the Paris Junior College
1218 District may provide by resolution or order of the board for the
1319 election of nine board members as follows:
1420 (1) eight members elected from respective
1521 commissioner precincts and evenly allocated among those precincts;
1622 and
1723 (2) one member elected at large.
1824 (b) A resolution or order of the governing board under
1925 Subsection (a) must establish transition terms of office to conform
2026 to elections held in even-numbered years and staggered six-year
2127 terms.
2228 (c) Notwithstanding Section 41.0052, Election Code, the
2329 governing board of the Paris Junior College District by resolution
2430 or order of the board may change the date on which the district
2531 holds its general election for board members to the November
2632 uniform election date. The governing board shall adjust the terms
2733 of office to conform to a change made to the election date under
2834 this subsection.
2935 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
