55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the county courts at law in Hidalgo County.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 25.1101(a), Government Code, is amended
1010 to read as follows:
1111 (a) Hidalgo County has the following statutory county
1212 courts:
1313 (1) County Court at Law No. 1 of Hidalgo County;
1414 (2) County Court at Law No. 2 of Hidalgo County;
1515 (3) County Court at Law No. 4 of Hidalgo County;
1616 (4) County Court at Law No. 5 of Hidalgo County;
1717 (5) County Court at Law No. 6 of Hidalgo County;
1818 (6) County Court at Law No. 7 of Hidalgo County; [and]
1919 (7) County Court at Law No. 8 of Hidalgo County; and
2020 (8) County Court at Law No. 9 of Hidalgo County.
2121 SECTION 2. Section 25.1102(a), Government Code, is amended
2222 to read as follows:
2323 (a) In addition to the jurisdiction provided by Section
2424 25.0003 and other law, a county court at law in Hidalgo County has
2525 concurrent jurisdiction with the district court in:
2626 (1) family law cases and proceedings; and
2727 (2) civil cases in which the matter in controversy
2828 does not exceed $1 million [$750,000], excluding interest,
2929 statutory or punitive damages and penalties, and attorney's fees
3030 and costs, as alleged on the page of the petition.
3131 SECTION 3. Notwithstanding Section 25.1101(a), Government
3232 Code, as amended by this Act, the County Court at Law No. 9 of
3333 Hidalgo County is created January 1, 2019.
3434 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
