| 8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Section 25.1101(a), Government Code, is amended |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | (a) Hidalgo County has the following statutory county |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | courts: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (1) County Court at Law No. 1 of Hidalgo County; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (2) County Court at Law No. 2 of Hidalgo County; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (3) County Court at Law No. 4 of Hidalgo County; |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (4) County Court at Law No. 5 of Hidalgo County; |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (5) County Court at Law No. 6 of Hidalgo County; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (6) County Court at Law No. 7 of Hidalgo County; [and] |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (7) County Court at Law No. 8 of Hidalgo County; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (8) County Court at Law No. 9 of Hidalgo County. |

| 21 | 21 | | SECTION 2. Section 25.1102(a), Government Code, is amended |

| 22 | 22 | | to read as follows: |

| 23 | 23 | | (a) In addition to the jurisdiction provided by Section |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | 25.0003 and other law, a county court at law in Hidalgo County has |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | concurrent jurisdiction with the district court in: |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | (1) family law cases and proceedings; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | (2) civil cases in which the matter in controversy |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | does not exceed $1 million [$750,000], excluding interest, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | statutory or punitive damages and penalties, and attorney's fees |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | and costs, as alleged on the page of the petition. |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | SECTION 3. Notwithstanding Section 25.1101(a), Government |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Code, as amended by this Act, the County Court at Law No. 9 of |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Hidalgo County is created January 1, 2019. |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
