12 | 12 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

13 | 13 | | SECTION 1. Section 554.002(a), Government Code, is amended |
---|
14 | 14 | | to read as follows: |
---|
15 | 15 | | (a) A state or local governmental entity may not suspend or |
---|
16 | 16 | | terminate the employment of, or take other adverse personnel action |
---|
17 | 17 | | against, a public employee who in good faith reports a violation of |
---|
18 | 18 | | law by the employing governmental entity or another public employee |
---|
19 | 19 | | to: |
---|
20 | 20 | | (1) the reporting employee's supervisor at the |
---|
21 | 21 | | employing governmental entity; |
---|
22 | 22 | | (2) an individual or office designated by the |
---|
23 | 23 | | employing governmental entity as the appropriate individual or |
---|
24 | 24 | | office for reporting such grievances; |
---|
25 | 25 | | (3) a member of the human resources staff of the |
---|
26 | 26 | | employing governmental entity; or |
---|
27 | 27 | | (4) an appropriate law enforcement authority. |

28 | 28 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
