1010 relating to whom certain violations of the law by a state or local
1111 governmental entity may be reported.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Section 554.002(a), Government Code, is amended
1414 to read as follows:
1515 (a) A state or local governmental entity may not suspend or
1616 terminate the employment of, or take other adverse personnel action
1717 against, a public employee who in good faith reports a violation of
1818 law by the employing governmental entity or another public employee
1919 to:
2020 (1) the reporting employee's supervisor at the
2121 employing governmental entity;
2222 (2) an individual or office designated by the
2323 employing governmental entity as the appropriate individual or
2424 office for reporting such grievances;
2525 (3) a member of the human resources staff of the
2626 employing governmental entity; or
2727 (4) an appropriate law enforcement authority.
2828 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
