55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the regulation of licensed specialists in school
88 psychology.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 501.260, Occupations Code, is amended by
1111 adding Subsections (d), (e), (f), and (g) to read as follows:
1212 (d) A person licensed under this section may be employed by
1313 and practice in a private school.
1414 (e) A person may not use the title "licensed specialist in
1515 school psychology" or "school psychologist" unless the person holds
1616 a license issued under this section.
1717 (f) A person who holds a license under this section may not
1818 use the title "nationally certified school psychologist" unless the
1919 person holds the appropriate credentials as designated by the
2020 National Association of School Psychologists or a successor
2121 organization.
2222 (g) A person who holds a license under this section may not
2323 use a title that represents that the person is licensed under
2424 Section 501.252 unless the person holds a license under that
2525 section. A person who holds a license under this section may not
2626 use the title designated by the board under Section 501.259 unless
2727 the person holds a license under that section.
2828 SECTION 2. Sections 501.260(e), (f), and (g), Occupations
2929 Code, as added by this Act, apply only to conduct that occurs on or
3030 after the effective date of this Act. Conduct that occurs before the
3131 effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the
3232 date the conduct occurred, and the former law is continued in effect
3333 for that purpose.
3434 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
