                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            April 1, 2017      TO: Honorable Phil King, Chair, House Committee on Homeland Security & Public Safety      FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:HB631 by Howard (Relating to a public awareness campaign on firearm safety and suicide prevention.), As Introduced    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend the Government Code to require the Department of Public Safety to develop and implement a public awareness campaign on firearm safety and suicide prevention. The bill would also require the agency to pay the costs of the campaign using funds only from the proceeds of fees collected under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, gifts grants, or donations, matching funds, and funds received from the federal government. The Department of Public Safety indicates that the costs to implement the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.The bill would take effect September 1, 2017.
