9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 568.001(a), Occupations Code, is amended | |
11 | 11 | to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | (a) In establishing rules under Section 554.053(c), the | |
13 | 13 | board shall require that: | |
14 | 14 | (1) a pharmacy technician: | |
15 | 15 | (A) have a high school diploma or a high school | |
16 | 16 | equivalency certificate or be working to achieve an equivalent | |
17 | 17 | diploma or certificate; and | |
18 | 18 | (B) have passed either: | |
19 | 19 | (i) a board-approved pharmacy technician | |
20 | 20 | certification examination; or | |
21 | 21 | (ii) a certification examination offered by | |
22 | 22 | a nationally recognized pharmacy technician certification program | |
23 | 23 | accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies; and | |
24 | 24 | (2) a pharmacy technician trainee have a high school | |
25 | 25 | diploma or a high school equivalency certificate or be working to | |
26 | 26 | achieve an equivalent diploma or certificate. | |
27 | 27 | SECTION 2. Not later than December 1, 2017, the Texas State | |
28 | 28 | Board of Pharmacy shall adopt rules necessary to implement Section | |
29 | 29 | 568.001, Occupations Code, as amended by this Act. | |
30 | 30 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
