66 AN ACT
77 relating to the education and examination requirements for pharmacy
88 technicians.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 568.001(a), Occupations Code, is amended
1111 to read as follows:
1212 (a) In establishing rules under Section 554.053(c), the
1313 board shall require that:
1414 (1) a pharmacy technician:
1515 (A) have a high school diploma or a high school
1616 equivalency certificate or be working to achieve an equivalent
1717 diploma or certificate; and
1818 (B) have passed either:
1919 (i) a board-approved pharmacy technician
2020 certification examination; or
2121 (ii) a certification examination offered by
2222 a nationally recognized pharmacy technician certification program
2323 accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies; and
2424 (2) a pharmacy technician trainee have a high school
2525 diploma or a high school equivalency certificate or be working to
2626 achieve an equivalent diploma or certificate.
2727 SECTION 2. Not later than December 1, 2017, the Texas State
2828 Board of Pharmacy shall adopt rules necessary to implement Section
2929 568.001, Occupations Code, as amended by this Act.
3030 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
