| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 132, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | amended by adding Section 132.026 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Sec. 132.026. TUITION AND FEE REIMBURSEMENT FOR CERTAIN |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | ADOPTED STUDENTS FORMERLY IN FOSTER OR OTHER RESIDENTIAL CARE. (a) |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | In this section, "institution of higher education" has the meaning |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | assigned by Section 61.003. |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (b) Using funds appropriated for that purpose, the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | commission, in coordination with the Texas Higher Education |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Coordinating Board, by rule shall establish a program under which |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the commission may reimburse a student in accordance with |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Subsection (c) for the payment of tuition and fees to a career |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | school or college if the student would be eligible for an exemption |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | from the payment of tuition and fees to an institution of higher |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | education under Section 54.367. |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | (c) The reimbursement paid to a student under this section |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | must be paid not later than the seventh day after the date the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | commission receives notification and verification of a tuition and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | fee payment made by or on behalf of the student. The rules adopted |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | under this section must prescribe the form and manner of that |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | notification and verification. |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with tuition and fees |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | charged by a career school or college for the 2017-2018 academic |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | year. |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
