| 8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Section 411.177, Government Code, is amended by | |
| 10 | 10 | adding Subsection (b-1) to read as follows: | |
| 11 | 11 | (b-1) Immediately after the decision is made under | |
| 12 | 12 | Subsection (a) to issue a license to an applicant, the department | |
| 13 | 13 | shall issue to the applicant a temporary license that is valid until | |
| 14 | 14 | the applicant receives the license approved under Subsection (a). | |
| 15 | 15 | A temporary license must be provided in an electronic format and | |
| 16 | 16 | must include all of the information required by Section 411.179, | |
| 17 | 17 | except that the photograph is not required to be in color. | |
| 18 | 18 | SECTION 2. Section 411.177(b-1), Government Code, as added | |
| 19 | 19 | by this Act, applies only to an application decision that is made by | |
| 20 | 20 | the Department of Public Safety on or after the effective date of | |
| 21 | 21 | this Act. An application decision that is made before the effective | |
| 22 | 22 | date of this Act is governed by the law in effect when the decision | |
| 23 | 23 | was made, and the former law is continued in effect for that | |
| 24 | 24 | purpose. | |
| 25 | 25 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
