The bill would require the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), in coordination with the Institute for Demographic and Socioeconomic Research at The University of Texas (UT) at San Antonio, the Regional Center for Health Workforce Studies at the Center for Health Economics and Policy of UT Health Science Center San Antonio, and the Texas Medical Board, to conduct a study on increasing the number of medical residency programs, medical residents, and physicians practicing medical specialties in this state. This analysis assumes that any costs for THECB, UT San Antonio, and UT Health Science Center San Antonio to implement the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within current resources. Based on information provided by the Texas Medical Board, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.
