| 8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Section 661.913(b), Government Code, is amended | |
| 10 | 10 | to read as follows: | |
| 11 | 11 | (b) The employee must first use all available and applicable | |
| 12 | 12 | paid vacation and sick leave while taking the leave authorized by | |
| 13 | 13 | this section. An employee whose leave under this section exceeds | |
| 14 | 14 | the amount of all available and applicable paid vacation and sick | |
| 15 | 15 | leave is entitled, after exhausting that leave, to not more than 20 | |
| 16 | 16 | days of additional paid leave. Any leave taken by the employee | |
| 17 | 17 | under this section after exhausting the additional paid leave [, | |
| 18 | 18 | and the remainder of the leave] is unpaid. | |
| 19 | 19 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
