| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 130.0012(b-1), Education Code, is |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | (b-1) The coordinating board shall authorize [establish a |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | pilot project to examine the feasibility and effectiveness of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | authorizing] baccalaureate degree programs in the field of dental |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | hygiene at a public junior college that offers a degree program in |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | that field, has a main campus located in the county seat of a county |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | with a population greater than 200,000, and includes territory in |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | at least six public school districts located in two counties. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Subsection (g) applies [does not apply] to junior-level and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | senior-level courses offered under this subsection. [In its |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | recommendations to the legislature relating to state funding for |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | public junior colleges, the coordinating board shall recommend that |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | junior-level and senior-level courses offered under this |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | subsection by a public junior college receive the same state |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | support as other courses offered by the public junior college.] |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | SECTION 2. Sections 130.0012(b-2) and (b-3), Education |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Code, are repealed. |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | SECTION 3. The changes in law made by this Act to Section |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | 130.0012(b-1), Education Code, apply beginning with funding |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | recommendations made under Section 130.0012, Education Code, for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | the state fiscal biennium beginning September 1, 2019. |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
