55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to state funding for baccalaureate degree programs offered
88 at certain public junior colleges.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 130.0012(b-1), Education Code, is
1111 amended to read as follows:
1212 (b-1) The coordinating board shall authorize [establish a
1313 pilot project to examine the feasibility and effectiveness of
1414 authorizing] baccalaureate degree programs in the field of dental
1515 hygiene at a public junior college that offers a degree program in
1616 that field, has a main campus located in the county seat of a county
1717 with a population greater than 200,000, and includes territory in
1818 at least six public school districts located in two counties.
1919 Subsection (g) applies [does not apply] to junior-level and
2020 senior-level courses offered under this subsection. [In its
2121 recommendations to the legislature relating to state funding for
2222 public junior colleges, the coordinating board shall recommend that
2323 junior-level and senior-level courses offered under this
2424 subsection by a public junior college receive the same state
2525 support as other courses offered by the public junior college.]
2626 SECTION 2. Sections 130.0012(b-2) and (b-3), Education
2727 Code, are repealed.
2828 SECTION 3. The changes in law made by this Act to Section
2929 130.0012(b-1), Education Code, apply beginning with funding
3030 recommendations made under Section 130.0012, Education Code, for
3131 the state fiscal biennium beginning September 1, 2019.
3232 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3333 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3434 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3535 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3636 Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
