77 relating to designation of an employee within certain state
88 agencies as a veterans liaison.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. The heading to Chapter 657, Government Code, is
1111 amended to read as follows:
1212 CHAPTER 657. VETERAN'S EMPLOYMENT PREFERENCES; VETERANS LIAISON
1313 SECTION 2. Chapter 657, Government Code, is amended by
1414 adding Section 657.011 to read as follows:
1515 Sec. 657.011. VETERANS LIAISON. (a) Each state agency with
1616 more than 500 full-time employees, using existing resources and
1717 employees, shall designate a full-time employee of the agency to
1818 serve as the veterans liaison for the agency. The employee's duties
1919 serving as the veterans liaison are secondary to the employee's
2020 primary duties for the agency.
2121 (b) The veterans liaison shall:
2222 (1) stay informed on trends and developments in
2323 hiring veterans for positions within the agency and of services
2424 available to veterans within and outside the agency;
2525 (2) recruit veterans for open positions within the
2626 agency; and
2727 (3) serve as the contact for veterans within and
2828 outside the agency to provide information about the agency and
2929 veteran's employment and services available within and outside the
3030 agency.
3131 SECTION 3. Not later than December 1, 2017, each state
3232 agency with more than 500 full-time employees shall designate a
3333 full-time employee of the agency to serve as the veterans liaison
3434 for the agency as required by Section 657.011, Government Code, as
3535 added by this Act.
3636 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
