| 8 | 8 | | students with dyslexia or related disorders. |

| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 42.006(a-1), Education Code, is amended |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | (a-1) The commissioner by rule shall require each school |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | district and open-enrollment charter school to report through the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Public Education Information Management System information |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | regarding the number of students enrolled in the district or school |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | who are identified as having dyslexia or related disorders. The |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | agency shall maintain the information provided in accordance with |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | this subsection. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | SECTION 2. Subchapter C, Chapter 42, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | amended by adding Section 42.1561 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Sec. 42.1561. ALLOTMENT FOR STUDENT WITH DYSLEXIA OR |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | RELATED DISORDER. (a) Subject to Subsection (b), for each student |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | that a school district serves who has been identified as having |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | dyslexia or a related disorder, the district is entitled to an |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | annual allotment equal to the district's adjusted basic allotment |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | as determined under Section 42.102 or Section 42.103, as |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | applicable, multiplied by 0.2 for each school year or a greater |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | amount provided by appropriation. |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | (b) A school district is entitled to the allotment under |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Subsection (a) only for a student who: |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | (1) is receiving instruction that: |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | (A) meets applicable dyslexia program criteria |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | established by the agency; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | (B) is provided by a person with specific |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | training in providing that instruction; or |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | (2) has received the instruction described by |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Subdivision (1) and is permitted, on the basis of having dyslexia or |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | a related disorder, to use modifications in the classroom and |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | accommodations in the administration of assessment instruments |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | under Section 39.023. |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | (c) Funds allotted under this section must be used in |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | providing services to students with dyslexia or related disorders. |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
