| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 81, Health and Safety |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Code, is amended by adding Section 81.025 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Sec. 81.025. STUDY ON SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES AMONG |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | ELDERLY PERSONS. (a) The department and the commission shall |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | conduct a study regarding: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (1) the incidence and prevalence of sexually |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | transmitted diseases among elderly persons in this state, including |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | persons who reside in a facility licensed under Chapter 242 or 247; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (2) methods for reducing the risk of contracting a |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | sexually transmitted disease for elderly persons in this state, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | including persons who reside in a facility licensed under Chapter |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | 242 or 247. |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (b) Not later than September 1, 2018, the commissioner and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | executive commissioner shall submit to the legislature a report |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | that: |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | (1) summarizes the findings of the study conducted |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | under Subsection (a); and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | (2) includes recommendations and strategies for |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | reducing the incidence and prevalence of sexually transmitted |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | diseases among elderly persons in this state, including persons who |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | reside in a facility licensed under Chapter 242 or 247. |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | (c) This section expires September 1, 2019. |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
