| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Chapter 22, Parks and Wildlife Code, is amended | |
| 11 | 11 | by adding Subchapter U to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | SUBCHAPTER U. BIG BEND RANCH STATE PARK | |
| 13 | 13 | Sec. 22.271. RESTRICTION ON SELLING LONGHORN CATTLE IN BIG | |
| 14 | 14 | BEND RANCH STATE PARK. (a) The department may not reduce the size | |
| 15 | 15 | of a herd of longhorn cattle by selling longhorn cattle owned by the | |
| 16 | 16 | state and located in Big Bend Ranch State Park unless the cattle | |
| 17 | 17 | remain in the park after the sale. | |
| 18 | 18 | (b) This section does not prohibit: | |
| 19 | 19 | (1) the sale of longhorn calves and heifers if the | |
| 20 | 20 | number of breeding stock is not reduced; or | |
| 21 | 21 | (2) the sale of cattle to replace breeding stock as | |
| 22 | 22 | necessary to maintain the size of the herd or to prevent inbreeding. | |
| 23 | 23 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 24 | 24 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 25 | 25 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 26 | 26 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 27 | 27 | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
