56 WHEREAS, Joseph I. O'Neill III of Midland has greatly
67 benefited his fellow citizens through his outstanding
78 contributions as a business and civic leader; and
89 WHEREAS, A native of Los Angeles, California, Joey O'Neill
910 earned a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Notre
1011 Dame in 1967 and a master of business administration degree from the
1112 University of Michigan in 1968; after completing his graduate
1213 studies, he proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army
1314 12th Special Forces Group in 1968 and 1969, followed by five years
1415 in the reserves, during which he was assigned to the 12th Special
1516 Forces and the 458th Military Intelligence Detachment; and
1617 WHEREAS, Since 1972, Mr. O'Neill has been a managing partner
1718 in O'Neill Properties, Ltd., following in the footsteps of his late
1819 father, the renowned oilman Joseph I. O'Neill Jr.; highly respected
1920 by his peers in the industry, Joey O'Neill has played a prominent
2021 role in the Texas Oil and Gas Association, serving as a district
2122 vice president and as a member of the board and the executive
2223 committee, and he has held several offices with the U.S. Oil and Gas
2324 Association, the Independent Petroleum Association, and the
2425 Permian Basin Petroleum Association; and
2526 WHEREAS, Dedicated to giving back to his community,
2627 Mr. O'Neill has been active with the Midland Chamber of Commerce as
2728 a member of its board of directors and the Forward Midland
2829 committee; his support of Midland Memorial Hospital has encompassed
2930 such leadership responsibilities as chairing the hospital's
3031 foundation and serving on its board of governors, board of
3132 trustees, and strategic planning committee; moreover, he has held
3233 the titles of president and campaign chair for the United Way of
3334 Midland and has helped guide the Midland Symphony and Chorus
3435 Association in addition to assisting numerous other organizations
3536 and institutions, including Midland College and The University of
3637 Texas of the Permian Basin; a longtime member of the Republican
3738 Party, he has been a delegate to the party's national and state
3839 conventions on a number of occasions and was regional finance chair
3940 for George W. Bush's gubernatorial and presidential campaigns; and
4041 WHEREAS, This tireless volunteer has remained a loyal alumnus
4142 of Notre Dame, having served on the university's board of trustees
4243 for many years; he has also lent his time and insight to the Notre
4344 Dame Athletic Affairs Committee and has likewise been part of the
4445 College of Engineering Advisory Council and the board of directors
4546 for the University of Notre Dame Alumni Association, which he
4647 previously led as president; and
4748 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. O'Neill enjoys the love
4849 and encouragement of Jan O'Neill, his devoted wife of 45 years; they
4950 are the proud parents of a daughter, Catherine, and a son, Patrick,
5051 and they have two treasured granddaughters, Molly and Maeve; and
5152 WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Joey O'Neill has set an
5253 inspiring example of the good that one dedicated individual can
5354 accomplish, and he may reflect with great pride on his sterling
5455 record of service to his profession, his community, and his alma
5556 mater; now, therefore, be it
5657 RESOLVED, That the 85th Legislature of the State of Texas
5758 hereby honor Joseph I. O'Neill III for his exceptional achievements
5859 as a business and civic leader and extend to him sincere best wishes
5960 for the future; and, be it further
6061 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
6162 prepared for Mr. O'Neill as an expression of high regard by the
6263 Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
