5+ CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
56 WHEREAS, Former state representative Carl H. Isett retired as
67 a captain in the United States Navy Reserve on March 6, 2017,
78 drawing to a close an exemplary career in the armed forces that
89 spanned 26 years; and
910 WHEREAS, Carl Isett was commissioned an officer in the U.S.
1011 Navy Reserve Supply Corps Program in April 1991, and he went on to
1112 graduate from the Basic Qualification Course at the Navy Supply
1213 Corps School in Athens, Georgia, in April 1993; his initial
1314 assignments included service as an executive officer for the
1415 Defense Distribution Depot Oakland Headquarters Unit in Lubbock and
1516 as officer in charge for detachments in Lubbock and Austin; and
1617 WHEREAS, Captain Isett gained extensive experience in
1718 theater logistics in Southeast Asia, through his participation in
1819 exercises in such locations as Thailand and Singapore; in his
1920 stateside assignments in the early 2000s, he served as commanding
2021 officer of distribution and supply centers in Denver and Oklahoma
2122 City, and in his role as commanding officer for Naval Supply
2223 Activity Bahrain, Detachment B, in San Antonio, he supported the
2324 navy's major logistical hub in the Persian Gulf; and
2425 WHEREAS, In 2006, Captain Isett was deployed with the Navy
2526 Customs Battalion QUEBEC to serve as executive officer overseeing
2627 nearly 400 sailors in Kuwait and Iraq; during his second active duty
2728 deployment, from June 2011 to March 2012, he led the Defense
2829 Logistics Agency Distribution in Kandahar, Afghanistan, the first
2930 and only facility of its kind to be located within an active theater
3031 of war; he subsequently completed additional duty in Denver and in
3132 San Diego, and he concluded his tenure by serving as the commanding
3233 officer of Navy Reserve Force Korea, Detachment F, in Fort Worth;
3334 and
3435 WHEREAS, This accomplished officer is the recipient of the
3536 Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Meritorious Service
3637 Medal with gold star, the Navy Commendation Medal with gold star,
3738 and the Navy Achievement Medal with gold star; and
3839 WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas Tech University, Captain Isett
3940 holds a bachelor of business administration degree with a double
4041 major in accounting and finance as well as a master's degree in
4142 finance; in addition to his service as a reserve officer and as the
4243 representative for House District 84 in the Texas Legislature from
4344 1997 to 2010, he has been employed as a certified public accountant
4445 and a consultant; and
4546 WHEREAS, Carl Isett's commitment to upholding the highest
4647 ideals of the U.S. military has earned him the respect and
4748 admiration of his fellow Texans, and he may indeed reflect with
4849 considerable pride on his outstanding efforts in behalf of his
4950 state and nation; now, therefore, be it
5051 RESOLVED, That the 85th Legislature of the State of Texas
5152 hereby honor Carl H. Isett on the event of his retirement from the
5253 U.S. Navy Reserve and commend him for 26 years of distinguished
5354 military service; and, be it further
5455 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5556 prepared for Captain Isett as an expression of high regard by the
5657 Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
