55 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
66 WHEREAS, United Nations Agenda 21 is a comprehensive plan
77 that promotes environmental extremism and social engineering; and
88 WHEREAS, Initiated at the United Nations Conference on
99 Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in
1010 1992, Agenda 21 pushes so-called "sustainable development" that
1111 would be implemented at the expense of private property ownership,
1212 single-family homes, and individual transportation choices; and
1313 WHEREAS, This pernicious agenda is being advanced in
1414 communities across the United States by ICLEI—Local Governments for
1515 Sustainability, which supports such programs as "Smart Growth
1616 America," "Resilient Cities," and other "green" projects; and
1717 WHEREAS, Through Agenda 21, the United Nations is attempting
1818 to exert an anticapitalist influence on American communities;
1919 although the agenda has no binding force on the federal government
2020 or on any state or local government, it is vital that all agencies,
2121 entities, and governments remain vigilant about its radical
2222 policies and reject its implementation outright; now, therefore, be
2323 it
2424 RESOLVED, That the 85th Legislature of the State of Texas
2525 hereby express its opposition to United Nations Agenda 21; and, be
2626 it further
2727 RESOLVED, That the Texas secretary of state forward official
2828 copies of this resolution to the president of the United States, to
2929 the president of the Senate and speaker of the House of
3030 Representatives of the United States Congress, and to all the
3131 members of the Texas delegation to Congress with the request that
3232 this resolution be officially entered in the Congressional Record.
