| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, United Nations Agenda 21 is a comprehensive plan |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | that promotes environmental extremism and social engineering; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Initiated at the United Nations Conference on |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 1992, Agenda 21 pushes so-called "sustainable development" that |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | would be implemented at the expense of private property ownership, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | single-family homes, and individual transportation choices; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, This pernicious agenda is being advanced in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | communities across the United States by ICLEI—Local Governments for |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Sustainability, which supports such programs as "Smart Growth |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | America," "Resilient Cities," and other "green" projects; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Through Agenda 21, the United Nations is attempting |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | to exert an anticapitalist influence on American communities; |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | although the agenda has no binding force on the federal government |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | or on any state or local government, it is vital that all agencies, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | entities, and governments remain vigilant about its radical |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | policies and reject its implementation outright; now, therefore, be |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | it |

| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the 85th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | hereby express its opposition to United Nations Agenda 21; and, be |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | it further |

| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Texas secretary of state forward official |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | copies of this resolution to the president of the United States, to |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | the president of the Senate and speaker of the House of |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Representatives of the United States Congress, and to all the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | members of the Texas delegation to Congress with the request that |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | this resolution be officially entered in the Congressional Record. |
