44 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
55 WHEREAS, The Ten Commandments set forth a code of moral
66 conduct that has had a significant impact on the development of the
77 legal principles of western civilization; and
88 WHEREAS, It is clear from their writings that our founding
99 fathers believed devotedly that there was a God, and throughout
1010 American history all three branches of government have acknowledged
1111 the strong role of religion in our nation's heritage and in the
1212 lives of its citizens; and
1313 WHEREAS, Government should not now or ever demonstrate any
1414 hostility to observances of faith by disabling the recognition of
1515 our religious heritage; and
1616 WHEREAS, The overwhelming majority of voters in the state
1717 2010 Republican Party Primary Election voted in favor of the public
1818 acknowledgement of God, and the 2012 platform of the Republican
1919 Party of Texas affirms "that the public acknowledgement of God is
2020 undeniable in our history and is vital to our freedom, prosperity,
2121 and strength"; and
2222 WHEREAS, Reflecting our history as a religious people,
2323 prayers, including the use of the word "God," at public gatherings
2424 and displays of the Ten Commandments in public educational
2525 institutions and other government buildings are acknowledgements
2626 of
2727 the continuing and important role of our religious tradition;
2828 now, therefore, be it
2929 RESOLVED, That the 85th Legislature of the State of Texas
3030 hereby support prayers, including the use of the word "God," at
3131 public gatherings, and displays of the Ten Commandments in public
3232 educational institutions and other government buildings.
