8	6		WHEREAS, Most major electronic messaging applications
9	7		provide a number of flag emojis, including that of the Republic of
10	8		Chile, but the official flag of Texas, also known as the Lone Star
11	9		Flag, is not included in the selection; and
12	10		WHEREAS, All too often, the Chilean flag emoji is used as a
13	11		substitute for the Lone Star Flag in text messaging and on social
14	12		media platforms; the Chilean flag proudly represents its country
15	13		but, despite its similarity to the Texas flag, it does not represent
16	14		the State of Texas; and
17	15		WHEREAS, The colors of the Chilean flag depict sky, snow, and
18	16		blood spilled while fighting for freedom, but the blue, white, and
19	17		red of the Lone Star Flag stand for the Texan values of loyalty,
20	18		purity, and bravery; and
21	19		WHEREAS, The single star of the Chilean flag, positioned in a
22	20		blue canton, has been seen by some as a guide to progress and honor,
23	21		while others have interpreted it to symbolize the powers of Chile's
24	22		government; and
25	23		WHEREAS, The independent Lone Star of Texas, situated in a
26	24		blue left panel, represents all of Texas and stands for our unity as
27	25		one for God, State, and Country, according to Section 3100.152(d),
28	26		Government Code; additionally, the five points of the Lone Star
29	27		have been said to represent the characteristics of a good Texas
30	28		citizen: fortitude, loyalty, righteousness, prudence, and
31	29		broadmindedness; and
32	30		WHEREAS, The third flag adopted by the Republic of Texas, the
33	31		Lone Star Flag has a grand history, and just as our flag could never
34	32		fully embody the country of Chile, neither can the Chilean flag
35	33		inspire feelings of pride and passion in the heart of a true Texan;
36	34		now, therefore, be it
37	35		RESOLVED, That the 85th Legislature of the State of Texas
38	36		hereby reject the notion that the Chilean flag, although it is a
39	37		nice flag, can in any way compare to or be substituted for the
40	38		official state flag of Texas and urge all Texans not to use the
41	39		Republic of Chile flag emoji in digital forums when referring to the
42	40		Lone Star Flag of the great State of Texas.
