14 | 9 | | WHEREAS, First curated in 1974, the Western Art Show was |

15 | 10 | | organized through the efforts of community and business leaders and |

16 | 11 | | prominent ranchers in the Stamford area, all of whom shared an |
---|
17 | 12 | | interest in the promotion and preservation of Western heritage and |
---|
18 | 13 | | culture; early supporters of the show included Western movie stars, |
---|
19 | 14 | | former Texas governors, and many individuals who are enshrined in |
---|
20 | 15 | | the ProRodeo and the National and Texas Cowboy Halls of Fame; and |
---|
21 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of its history the Stamford Western |
---|
22 | 17 | | Art Show has displayed paintings, drawings, and sculptures from |
---|
23 | 18 | | some of the most famous artists of Texas and the West, among whom |
---|
24 | 19 | | are luminaries of the Cowboy Artists of America organization and |
---|
25 | 20 | | multiple individuals who have been chosen as Texas State Artist by |
---|
26 | 21 | | the Texas Commission on the Arts; and |
---|
27 | 22 | | WHEREAS, This prestigious event is operated by the nonprofit |
---|
28 | 23 | | Stamford Art Foundation, and the show is a broad-based community |
---|
29 | 24 | | initiative that draws on the efforts of the organization's board of |
---|
30 | 25 | | directors as well as an additional 130 or more volunteers; proceeds |
---|
31 | 26 | | from tickets and art sales benefit the West Texas Rehabilitation |
---|
32 | 27 | | Center, which provides outpatient therapy and rehabilitation |
---|
33 | 28 | | services to more than 500 patients daily, regardless of their |
---|
34 | 29 | | ability to pay, from locations in Abilene, San Angelo, and Ozona; |

36 | 31 | | WHEREAS, The Western Art Show in Stamford is a prominent |

37 | 32 | | event that pays tribute to the treasured legacy of the American West |

38 | 33 | | and features the premier artists of the genre, and it is indeed |

39 | 34 | | fitting to recognize the community that has been home to this |
---|
40 | 35 | | exciting showcase for more than four decades; now, therefore, be it |

41 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the 85th Legislature of the State of Texas |

42 | 37 | | hereby designate the city of Stamford as the Western Art Show |

43 | 38 | | Capital of Texas; and, be it further |

44 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section |
