| 10 | 10 | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 11 | 11 | SECTION 1. Article III, Texas Constitution, is amended by | |
| 12 | 12 | adding Section 52l to read as follows: | |
| 13 | 13 | Sec. 52l. The legislature by general law may provide that a | |
| 14 | 14 | religious organization that leases property for use as an actual | |
| 15 | 15 | place of religious worship is entitled to a refund from each | |
| 16 | 16 | political subdivision that taxes the property of the ad valorem | |
| 17 | 17 | taxes imposed on the property by that political subdivision and | |
| 18 | 18 | collected from the owner of the property. | |
| 19 | 19 | SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be | |
| 20 | 20 | submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 7, 2017. | |
| 21 | 21 | The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the | |
| 22 | 22 | proposition: "The constitutional amendment authorizing the | |
| 23 | 23 | legislature to provide for the refund of ad valorem taxes imposed on | |
| 24 | 24 | property leased to a religious organization for use as an actual | |
| 25 | 25 | place of religious worship." |
