11 | 11 | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Article VIII, Texas Constitution, is amended by | |
13 | 13 | adding Section 1-v to read as follows: | |
14 | 14 | Sec. 1-v. (a) The legislature by general law may exempt from | |
15 | 15 | ad valorem taxation by one or more political subdivisions of this | |
16 | 16 | state property located near a public school that is owned by a | |
17 | 17 | person for the purpose of building low-income or moderate-income | |
18 | 18 | housing on the property. | |
19 | 19 | (b) The legislature may provide additional eligibility | |
20 | 20 | requirements for an exemption authorized by this section. | |
21 | 21 | SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be | |
22 | 22 | submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 7, 2017. | |
23 | 23 | The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the | |
24 | 24 | proposition: "The constitutional amendment authorizing the | |
25 | 25 | legislature to exempt from ad valorem taxation by one or more | |
26 | 26 | political subdivisions of this state property located near a public | |
27 | 27 | school that is owned for the purpose of building low-income or | |
28 | 28 | moderate-income housing." |
